Sports/Exercise and Nutritional Sports Supplements

Nutritional sports supplements and exercise are the perfect combination.

Why do I say that? Well did you know that exercising can reduce your cravings for the wrong type of foods? You know the ones that can pile on the pounds just by looking at them?

But your body also needs the right type of nutrients to enable you make the most of your excercises. So they are a perfect combination right?

Here are a few tips about nutrition and exercise.

Its not advisable to perform exercise or do any sports when you are still digesting food. Its equally not advisable to do them on an empty stomach either. So it is really important to take the issue of nutritional sports supplements seriously.

You shouldn't exercise for about thirty minutes after eating because your stomach would still be digesting the food and your intestines will steal blood flow from your muscles and you could end up getting cramp.

I am sure that you have heard that you need to eat loads of carbohydrates if you are exercising as that is what gives you energy. Well the truth is that if you have been eating normally beforehand all you need is a good balance of carbohydrates and protein, sufficient for your exercise session, before and after exercising.

If you are planning to run the marathon or take part in a triatholon or other such intensive sport, feel free to load up on the carbs. You'll need it and you'll work it off.

If your aim is to keep fit and lose some weight a light meal of easy to digest carbohydrates contained in fruit and vegetables and a little protein thirty minutes before exercising would suffice. You can get this conveniently in some nutritional sports protein supplements like a shake with some berries thrown in for good measure.

Your nutrition after the exercise session is equally important.

You will need about 100 to 200 calories within thirty minutes of exercising and of course water, water, water, to restore fluid lost during the session. If you are averse to water you can try some nutritional sports energy drink supplements to make up for the lost liquid. I personally prefer plain old water.

You will also need carbohydrates to restore muscle glycogen and proteins to help build up the muscle tissue. Again some nutritonal sports supplements can come in handy such as low calorie protein bars and shakes.

The protein also helps reduce the pain and burning sensation in your muscles and joints as it reduces the breakdown of muscle protein after exercise and sports.

Eating a variety of different coloured fruit and vegetables supplies your body with phytonutrients and

antioxidants that help protect your muscles from the effect of oxidation which occurs during exercise and sports. This can reduce the soreness you sometimes get from an intensive workout. In addition you can add some antioxidant supplements like vitamin E or other targetted nutritional sports supplement to your diet.
