General Health Supplements
Even if you eat healthily and
exercise
regularly taking additional health supplements are highly recommended. This is because not all nutrients needed for optimum health are easily obtainable in the average
diet
Depending on your age and lifestyle there will be
certain nutrients
that will enable your body to perform more efficiently. These may be difficult to obtain and absorb in the average person's diet.
There are some people who do not have
weight concerns
but do have other
health concerns.
From my own experience and from that of others personally known to me I have come to a realisation that many common ailments are a direct result of poor nutrition. For example do you know that physical and mental stress can use up the supply of B vitamins in your system and can result in loss of concentration and a feeling of lethargy. Taking health supplements are one way of making up for the deficiency.
There are so many other factors that contribute to the breaking down of your immune system and thus your susceptibilty to various illnesses. Stress has already been mentioned but other factors such as smoking, regular alcohol consumption, long distance travelling, pollution, lack of exercise,
insufficient water intake
and poor diet also contribute.
The working of our
metabolism
creates free radicals as a natural process of oxidation. When these free radicals build up in our body they can damage healthy cells and we need
antioxidants
to combat the effect of the free radicals. Our body produces antioxidants naturally but sometimes these are not enough and we need to take antioxidant supplements in addition.
Gender also plays a role in the type of health supplements your body needs. Women with their monthly cycle undergo hormonal changes which to some can be quite uncomfortable. There are ancient herbal supplements that can ease the discomfort.
Men
face their own hormonal challenges and require specialised and targetted supplementation as well.
Age
comes with its own problems as you may lose bone mass due to Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. To combat this you need additional calcium in the form of supplements. By the way did you know that less than a third of calcium taken in your diet is actually abosrbed by your body and taking an additional vitamin D supplement can aid calcium absorption?
